Its a Jungle Out There

My husband was hooked on the show 'Monk' and thankfully is done with all the episodes. The theme song "It's a Jungle Out There" is what I thought of with this adorable quilt.

I wish I could take credit for piecing/sewing it together - I just did the quilting. I think this quilt is so cute!

It was great to have a break from Christmas sewing. Now that this is done - back to the grind!

Baby Chevron

Here's another Chevron but it was pieced using strips which made it pretty fast once it was laid out.

I did this quilt from start to finish in one day. My husband remarked to me, "Most people would do this over the course of a couple weeks". Using my very expanded vocabulary and smart wit, I responded "I ain't most people!"

Ok, so NOW I can get going on Christmas gifts and preparations.

Happy Easter!

I am excited to finish this quilt. I started it earlier this year (my unfinished projects aren't quite as old now!) and knew that I wouldn't be finishing it in time for Easter 2012 (but now I am prepared for Easter 2013 - BONUS!). 

I may embellish the quilt later with buttons and other goodies but for now I am excited excited to have the quilting and binding done. Now I can move on to Christmas preparations!

Chevron

My sister found this pattern and got a few of us interested in doing it at the "same" time and sharing pictures. I should have finished this in May but since we were getting ready to move then, it got packed away.

I pulled it out about 3 weeks ago and my little boy remarked how long it was taking me to sew this quilt. He told me that I needed to stop doing fun things and finish the quilt. (Little does he know that quilting is one of the fun things and so many other things that occupy my time are not fun to do.)

So only about 6 months late, here is my colorful chevron quilt. It took me a lot of time looking through my fabric stash to figure out how to make this without buying any fabric. And I pulled it off. It is a bit wild but great (especially now that it is done). 

I pieced many different colors together for the binding, so the craziness goes to the edge. Nice! My husband had the idea for the border. Poor guy gets pulled into the "thinking session" when I'm trying to figure out what color of thread and what pattern to do.

Only one more unfinished project to go! I have so many projects that I need to do that are traditional gifts (baby blankets, 1 year old gifts, etc) that are time sensitive. So I hope that I will be back here soon, blogging about the last unfinished project I have so I can get roaring on others.

Quilting Hiatus

It seems like it has been forever since I've quilted. I have vowed to finish the projects in the queue before starting any new ones. I have two quilt tops ready to go but my "work" life is getting in the way a bit. Hopefully I get things sorted out and will have something to share in the near future.

Christmas Table Runner

This is another one of my projects that has been waiting patiently to be completed. I am trying to recall what year I started this - but this too was started two houses ago, so I would guess 6 or 7 years as well. I pieced three of these - intended as early Christmas gifts but ultimately decided to gift differently to one person which left me with this unfinished project.

The quilting was done when it was initially pieced so I can definitely tell that my quilting has improved since then. My recent work to complete the project was the binding and adding the details (buttons and jingle bells). 

6 years in the making

Six years ago this October I went with my mother-in-law to Gardner Village to do a little shopping. I was expecting my first little one and I remember that it was the Halloween season because all of the little shops were decorated cute and spooky. We went into one store and I bought a few patterns of "stitching" projects.

I naively thought that I would have time on my maternity leave that I would need something to do. I did start it on my maternity leave but it got stashed away for a few years. I pulled it out and stitched all the letters except for the X. I didn't like that the X was for X-Mas because Christ is the whole meaning of Christmas. 

So it remained nearly done without the X until General Conference weekend when I finally finished it. I went with my husband's suggestion of doing Xylophone for X (he is a musician). 

I quilted and bound it this weekend with my unexpected free time (we were supposed to be on vacation but our family is sick). I kept it simple. Now that it is all done I wonder what I am going to do with it - we have moved twice since then and our family has grown.

I am on a quest to finish all of my "in progress" projects before I start another one. Projects in the queue: finishing up a Christmas table runner (probably from the same time period), my Easter quilt (pieced last March) and a Chevron quilt I started piecing last summer before we moved. I imagine I will find more "in progress" projects... but that is all I can think of for now. 

Happy birthday sweet boy

I can't believe that the babies are nearly one (3 days away). Here is a little preview of Carter's blanket. He's such a tender little man who captures the hearts of everyone. Now I need to get busy binding!

A Little Boy's Heaven

This quilt is fresh off the rack... I haven't even clipped the threads yet. I just couldn't wait any longer to take pictures of this darling quilt.

My sister makes bedspreads for her kids and aren't they completely awesome!? What a lucky little boy to have this for his bedspread. Trains. Cars. Construction equipment. AWESOME!I'm glad my sister wanted to use the variegated thread - it goes from gold to orange and red. It complements the quilt really well and gets attention (but just the right amount).

Repeat quilt

My *sister wanted a matching quilt for her daughters' room to one that I quilted over five years ago. This one was simple and fun - just a large meander over the sassy Pottery Barn sheets.

*I have four sisters so I will probably mention "my sister" quite a bit.

Happy Birthday sweetie

Our precious twins turn ONE in just a few days so I am busily trying to finish special quilts for them. Here is a little quilt for our baby girl, Jenna. The quilt is busy and fun to fit her personality.

Wish this quilt was mine...

This gorgeous, crazy witch-filled quilt is so dreamy! The dangling legs are  precious and a teeny bit ridiculous. The pictures don't do it justice. I love love love it! My sister is the quilter extraordinaire - always finding or creating exciting patterns and coupling them with darling fabrics. Tempted to keep it. Nobody would blame me! My quilt frames were tucked away in a storage unit for a long time so it was great to get back into it and have a little fun.
